This recipe makes delicious sticky BBQ honey ribs. The ribs are seasoned, baked, covered with BBQ sauce and are then baked again to seal in the flavours.

If you love ribs then why not tuck into these juicy succulent oven baked ribs. These ribs are so good and super easy to prepare. Preparation is quick and most of the time the ribs will be cooking in the oven. The ribs are initially seasoned with a dry rub that involves simple ingredients and then slathered in a BBQ honey sauce that make the ribs sweet and sticky.

These ribs are definitely a family favourite in my household and my daughters absolutely love them especially as a weekend treat. They’re also ideal as a party food if you have guests over and I’m sure they’d be a hit with your guests.

What to Serve with Sticky BBQ Honey Ribs?

These ribs can be served with a variety of dishes but below are some of my favourite ideas.

    • Side salad
    • Baked sweet potato
    • Baked potato
    • Sweet potato fries
    • Oven chips/fries
    • Potato wedges
    • Corn on a cob

Ingredients for Sticky BBQ Honey Ribs

    • 600g - 700g pork ribs - 1 medium rack

    Seasonings

    • 1 teaspoon salt – this ingredient is optional.
    • ½ teaspoon black pepper – I use coarse black pepper for better flavour.
    • 2 teaspoon onion granules – onion powder work too.
    • 1 teaspoon garlic granules – or garlic powder.
    • 2 teaspoon paprika – this gives the ribs a Smokey flavour.
    • ½ teaspoon mild chilli powder – this adds a little spice to the ribs.
    • 1 teaspoon light brown sugar – adds to the sweetness of the ribs.

    Sticky BBQ Sauce

    • 150ml barbecue sauce – use your favourite BBQ sauce.
    • 40g pure clear honey – adds to the sweetness and makes the ribs sticky.
    • 1 teaspoon minced garlic – or finely chopped garlic.
    • ½ teaspoon ground black pepper – coarse black pepper is ideal.
    • 1 teaspoon dried oregano – enhance the flavours with a little oregano.
    • ½ tsp cayenne pepper – gives the ribs some spice. Leave this ingredient out if you don’t like spicy food.

How to Make Sticky BBQ Honey Ribs

    1. Preheat the oven to gas mark 5/375oF/190oC. To a small bowl add and combine all the seasoning ingredients then set aside. Clean and prepare your ribs then remove the membrane underneath the ribs.

    2. Place a piece of foil onto a baking tray and ensure its large enough to fully cover the ribs. Place the ribs onto the tray then pour on the seasonings you mixed earlier. Smooth the seasoning all over the ribs ensuring the rack is evenly covered. Cover the ribs with the foil and seal it like a parcel. Cook in the oven for 2 hours. While the ribs are in the oven, combine all the ingredients for the sauce and set aside.

    3. Remove the tray from the oven and drain off any juices that the meat produces from cooking. Brush the sauce onto the ribs ensuring you coat the whole rack. You can also use the back of a spoon to do this. Once the whole rack is covered, pour the remainder of the sauce onto the ribs so all the sauce is used up. Place the ribs uncovered back into the oven and cook for 25 to 30 minutes. Allow to cool for 10 minutes before serving.

    Recipe Tips

    • This recipe serves 2, double the ingredients to make 4 servings.
    • Seasoning the ribs the night before will give the ribs even better flavour.
    • It is not easy to find uncooked rib racks in the UK. The supermarkets I have been able to purchase them from are Ocado, Morrisons and Waitrose. You should also be able to get them from local butchers.
