This week’s recipe is for low carb cheese crisps. It’s a very simple recipe and it’s so easy that it more of a snack idea than a recipe. When trying to reduce the carbs in my diet, finding low carbs snacks is not as easy as it is to find high carb snacks which is why I was overjoyed when I discovered these bad boys.

    Low Carb Chips

They are crispy, flavoursome and very filling. Recently, I made some of these cheese chips to go with my lunch which was to be a tuna salad. I prepared them an hour before lunch and allowed them to cool. While I was preparing my tuna salad, I began to eat them and before I knew it, I had eaten 3. I then realised that I was too full to eat the salad and ended up storing the salad in the fridge for dinner. So, my point is they are a perfect snack to keep your hunger at bay.

Other cheeses you can use for this recipe include edam, parmesan and mozzarella. There are many other cheeses that you can use to make these cheese crisps but I have only used the three that I’ve I mentioned so couldn’t give advice on any other cheeses. These cheese crisps are delicious alone or you can enjoy them with dips such as guacamole, salsa or sour cream. They only require a few ingredients and you can have them whipped up in less than 15 minutes. So next time you’re looking for a low carb snack then give these a try.

Ingredients for Low Carb Cheese Crisps

    • 100g cheddar cheese
    • 2 teaspoon sesame seeds
    • 1 teaspoon dried chives

How to Make Low Carb Cheese Crisps

    1. Preheat the oven to gas mark 3/325oF/170oC and line a baking sheet with baking paper.

    2. Grate the cheese then add it to the baking tray in small heaps. Leave enough room between them for them to spread.

    3. Sprinkle the sesame seeds and chives on top and bake in the oven for around 9 minutes. Once baked, allow to completely cool on the baking tray before enjoying alone or with some dips.

    Recipe Tips

    • The recipe calls for dried chives which I use as fresh chives contains a small amount of moisture which may affect how they crisp up.
    • Try not to let the edges burn as burnt cheese can be quite bitter.
    • Allow these cheese crisps to completely cool before enjoying them as they become crispier, the longer they are out the oven.

    Storage

These chips are best eaten immediately but if you have leftovers, store them in the fridge in an airtight container and consume within 24 hours.
