Today, I’m sharing this recipe for a cheeseburger bowl. I only stated making this recipe a few months ago and I’m now totally addicted to it.

    cheeseburger bowl

My family love cheeseburgers, especially home-made one and we would usually have them around once every 2 weeks. On the days we were having cheeseburgers, I would usually not eat at all prior to the meal as cheeseburgers are high in calories and I did not want to go over my calorie restriction but when I started following a lower carb diet, I was forced to give them up totally.

One day, I decided to start experimenting with burger bowls as I heard about them through friends who had eaten them from places such as five guys and I came up with this recipe. Most burgers are very high in saturated fats but with this burger bowl I use lean mince which helps to keep the calories down and the fat in the meal comes mainly from avocados.

This cheeseburger bowl contains everything that you will find in a burger except the bun. You get to enjoy all the flavours in a burger for less calories and less carbs. Happy Days! You can use any dressing of choice. I usually have it with some burger sauce and it taste amazing. Most burger sauces contain small amounts of carbs so if you’re on a low carb diet most should be fine to use. Just check the label to be certain. The recipe is so quick and easy to prepare. You don’t need lots of ingredients and another great thing is you won’t even miss cheeseburgers once you taste this salad.

    Ingredients for Cheese Burger Bowl

    For the Meat

    • 1 teaspoon sunflower oil
    • 150g raw beef mince 5%
    • ½ small onion (chopped)
    • 1 teaspoon onion powder/granules
    • 1 teaspoon garlic powder/granules
    • ¼ teaspoon ground black pepper
    • ½ teaspoon paprika
    • 1 teaspoon soy sauce
    • 20ml water

    For the Salad

    • 160g romaine lettuce (chopped)
    • 1 small red onion (chopped)
    • 1 medium avocado (sliced)
    • 100g cherry tomatoes (halved)
    • 80g gherkins/pickles (sliced)
    • 30g cheddar cheese (grated)

How to Make Cheese Burger Bowl

    1. To a frying pan, add the sunflower oil and place the frying pan on a medium heat. Once heated add the beef mince and onions. Begin to break up the mince continuously and stir until there is no pink left on the meat.

    2. Add the onion powder, garlic powder, black pepper, paprika and soy sauce then mix them into the meat while it is still on a medium heat. Add the water to the pan and reduce to a low heat. Leave to simmer for 20 minutes or until the water has dried out then turn of the heat and set aside while you make the salad.

    3. Place all the salad ingredients together in the serving bowls then spoon the minced beef onto the salad, sprinkle on the cheese and any dressing you desire then enjoy.

    Recipe Tips

    • I use lean minced beef with 5% fat for this recipe. Other lean meats you can use include turkey breast mince and lean pork mince.
    • You can use any cheese for this cheeseburger bowl. I do prefer cheddar.
    • The best lettuce to use is romaine or sweet gem for crunch. Iceberg can be used but it doesn’t contain as many nutrients as a lettuce such as romaine.
    • The nutritional information doesn’t include any dressing used.
    • This recipe serves 2 but you can easily double the ingredients to serve 4.

    Storage

Make this recipe to consume immediately. You can store any left-over cooked minced beef in the fridge for 2 – 3 days.
