    Eton mess

    What is Eton Mess?

Eton mess is a simple English dessert that includes berries, whipped cream and meringue. It is thought to have originated at Eton College and apparently was served every year at their annual cricket match. The 'mess' in the name refers to the look of the dessert as all the ingredients are mixed together to create a messy looking dessert. Typically, strawberries alone were used but nowadays other berries such raspberries and blueberries are also used in different recipes.

    healthy Eton mess

Traditional Eton mess is made with whipped cream which means it is very high in calories and fat. This recipe uses strained 0% fat Greek yoghurt instead of cream which makes this delicious dessert a healthier alternative.

A serving of traditional Eton mess contains around 500 calories and 50g of fat. It also contains around 30g of saturated fat which isn’t ideal. This Eton mess recipe has around 180 calories and contains around 0.6g of fat which is much healthier especially if you’re counting calories and watching your fat intake.

Strained Greek yoghurt is high in protein so this dessert contains around 16g protein which is great for those trying to increase protein in their diet.
