    These butter garlic and onion green beans are fresh, buttery and full of savoury flavour. The crisp-tender beans are paired with the soft onions and a touch of garlic, making them a simple yet delicious addition to weeknight dinners or holiday meals.

    These green beans make the perfect side for many dishes but they particularly pair well with chicken or fish. They also go great with steak, lamb chops or pork chops. This recipe is quick and easy to prepare so you can have these butter garlic green beans ready in around 10 minutes.

    Ingredients for Butter Garlic & Onion Green Beans

    • Green beans – use fresh green beans. 
    • Salt – use any salt you prefer to season the green beans.
    • Butter – use salted or unsalted, whichever you’d prefer.
    • Onion – I use red onion but you can use a brown onion instead for stronger flavour.
    • Garlic – use fresh garlic cloves.
    • Black pepper – a little black pepper to season.

    How to Make Butter Garlic & Onion Green Beans

    1. Bring a large saucepan of water to a boil with ½ teaspoon of salt. Add beans and cook for 3 - 4 minutes until just tender but still crisps. Drain and immediately rinse under cold water.

    2. In a large frying pan, melt the butter over medium heat. Add the onions and cook for 4 – 5 minutes while stirring occasionally, until softened. Stir in the minced garlic and cook for 30 seconds until fragrant.

    3. Add the green beans to the pan, tossing to coat them in the garlic butter. Cook for 2 - 3 minutes until heated through. Add the salt and black pepper then serve warm.

    • 1 teaspoon salt ½ teaspoon for the water and ½ teaspoon for seasoning
    • 15g butter salted or unsalted
    • 1 small red onion diced
    • 2 cloves garlic minced
    • ¼ teaspoon black pepper
