If you love soup dumplings as much as I do then you know the dipping sauce is half the experience. This dumpling sauce takes simple dumplings and turns them into something amazing and completely addictive.

This simple soup dumpling dipping sauce is tangy, savoury, a little sweet and a little spicy so the flavours are well rounded and balanced.

This soup dumpling sauce recipe uses simple everyday ingredients and takes less than a minute to come together.

What To Serve With Dumpling Sauce

This sauce works beautifully with any type of dumplings including steamed or pan-fried but is not limited to just dumplings. It goes perfectly with potstickers or gyozas, wontons, spring rolls or pancake rolls. You can also drizzle over rice bowls or noodles for a flavour boost. Whatever you decide to use it for, I'm certain it won't disappoint.

    Ingredients for Dumpling Dipping Sauce

Please find the full list of ingredients and quantities in the recipe card at the end of the post.

    • Soy sauce – I used reduced salt soy sauce.
    • Chilli oil – or crispy chilli oil to add some heat.
    • Rice vinegar – or you can use lime juice.
    • Soft brown sugar – or a little honey to balance the saltiness of the sauce.
    • Ginger – I use dried ground ginger.
    • Sesame seeds – use toasted sesame seeds.
    • Spring onion – or green onion.
    • Garlic – adding minced garlic is optional.

How to Make Dumpling Dipping Sauce

    1. Add the soy sauce, chilli oil, rice vinegar, soft brown sugar and ginger to a small bowl and mix until combined and the sugar dissolves.

    2. Add in the sesame seeds, spring onion and garlic if using and mix well. Optionally, set aside for 10 minutes to allow the flavours to infuse then transfer to a sauce bowl for dipping or spoon over your dumplings.
